Welcome to Hottt Media.
Inspired by Marshall McLuhen.

Hottt Media draws its name and inspiration from concepts developed by the great Canadian thinker, Marshall McLuhen.  In his 1964 tome Understanding Media McLuhen used hot and cool to describe various forms of media and how we interact with them.

"Hot media usually, but not always, provide complete involvement without considerable stimulus. For example, print occupies visual space, uses visual senses, but can immerse its reader. Hot media favour analytical precision, quantitative analysis and sequential ordering, as they are usually sequential, linear and logical. They emphasize one sense (for example, of sight or sound) over the others. For this reason, hot media also include radio, as well as film, the lecture and photography."

In the sixties McLuhen also developed a concept which grows more relevant over time.  Long before home computers, when satellites and space travel were in their infancy – McLuhen coined the term Global Village.  His vision of the planet as a culture connected through media is taking on a profound new form nearly fifty years later. Hottt Media is a project intended to spawn new ideas, create new ways of using old media, and serve as a catalyst for positive change in the Global Village.  The seeds for this project were planted over a quarter century ago by the writing of Marshall McLuhen. Lets hope Hottt Media endures and influences positive change as effectively as the concepts of this great Canadian.

Hottt Media is based in Edmonton, Alberta.  Marshall McLuhen’s home town.
